09/14/2018 - Mayor de Blasio announced that his administration is proceeding with the closure of Rikers Island. As a result, the City will expand the Manhattan Detention Center on Centre Street in Chinatown, in order to accept approximately 1,000 additional inmates. In a press conference, CCBA, Hoy Sun Ning Yung Association and Lin Sing Association announced a rally on September 27 to voice our oppositions against the proposal.

09/14/2018 - 白思豪市長宣佈他的任內即將推行關閉雷德島監獄，並計劃擴建華埠中央街的曼克頓拘留中心，以多容納超過一千名囚犯。中華公所與台山寧陽會館、美東聯成公所宣佈，決定於九月廿七日在市政府進行第三次公聽會當日，號召僑胞前往展開大型抗議行動，反對向華埠移送更多囚犯及擴建監獄。
